Prior to 2016, the “Young People’s Literature” categories were referred to as the “Children’s Literature” categories.
Until 1959, only English-language books were eligible. Francophone authors could receive an award only if their work had been translated and published in English. In addition, there were no finalists prior to 1979.
Publishers can submit works they consider to be outstanding. The guidelines and eligibility requirements will be made available in the Canada Council’s online funding portal two months prior to the next competition deadline.
